Re-Invent Yourself: Special Effects Makeup

Everyone is tapping into their talent and gift using it to make a living.  I decided 13 years ago, I wanted to step out on faith and pursue my passion as a makeup artist.  GOD only knew then that it would open so many wonderful doors for me.

Just as I reinvented myself while obtaining an education and gaining employment, I used that same practice in my career as a makeup artist. Last year, I decided to take a one-on-one prosthetic class. I was afforded the opportunity to train under Master Monet Mansano in Los Angeles.  His works include notable horror movies Halloween I and II.

Step out your box with your gift and re-invent yourself!! Above our some photos from my special effects training with Monet.

Winter Skin

Our skin regimen is extremely important before we can apply any color to our face.  As Winter approaches, it is necessary to change your moisturizer from season to season.  Here are a few moisturizers I recommend to maintain a healthy canvas:

Olive Oil is something my grandmother has used for years to moisturize her beautiful skin. Olive Oil has been around for centuries and is the most natural approach to moisturizing your skin.

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream is specifically formulated for dry sensitive skin.  It’s fragrance free, fast-acting and creates long lasting hydration.  It helps prevent recurrence of dryness.

Dinur Cosmetics Hydrocare Moisturizer SPF 8 intensely hydrates as it helps restore and rebuild sensitive skin.  It’s specifically for normal/oily skin.  This moisturizer leaves the skin visibly lucent with a healthy glow.

Remember to always cleanse, exfoliate (as needed), tone and moisturize.  Be sure your moisturizer has a SPF.

Without a healthy canvas, you can’t create a flawless look!!!

Fall into Fashion

Greetings Fashionistas-

After much anticipation, finally my web page is up. Please visit my new web-site and my world of makeup artistry at www.deidamassey.com. The Makeup Maven blog is all about face, new products, new makeup trends and inner beauty. I would love to read your comments, please let me know what you think.

A week from today I had the opportunity to key my very own fashion show with Style SalonNYC. The Spring 2012 look I created for this show was a Taupe smokey eye with a peach lip. The skin is very clean with minimum foundation. Keep your skin hydrated, so your canvas can be clear of breakouts to achieve a barely there foundation look for Spring. In addition, I had the opportunity to work with an AWESOME team of artists: Cataanda, Khadine, Vivian, Andrey, Natasha and Thomas. BIG Thanks to my girl Karen Dupiche for the referrals. Here I am below with one of the models for Style Salon 2012….the lovely Alexis Diana and the Style Salon makeup artists team with models.

Color and more color for Spring!!!!

Pink lips, peacock and teal eye lids and mango cheeks are this seasons vibrant colors for the Spring!!! Don’t be afraid to use color and apply the colors mentioned moving forward into the Summer. Apply generously and always consider your skin texture and complexion when applying. Best advice: it’s always good to do a consultation with a professional before color is used. This prevents any beauty mishaps and flaws. Happy Spring and let’s get colorful for Summer!!!!
